How to Increase Curb Appeal With a New Fence

Monday, September 7, 2020

Trying to sell your house or turn it into the best looking home on the block? You don't need to search for curb appeal ideas any longer. Increasing your abode's curb appeal with a new fence can significantly help boost its value to prospective buyers.

"How will I do that?" you may ask yourself. Fear not, the answers to all your fencing questions lie below.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the definition of curb appeal is the visual attractiveness of a house as seen from the street.

Adding curb appeal to your home can raise the value anywhere between 7% and 14% depending on market conditions.

Fence Styles to Increase Curb Appeal

Three major fence types that can improve the look of your home are aluminum, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and wood fencing.

Aluminum fencing is a great choice for those interesting in a wrought-iron fence look. These fences come in a variety of types and colors. Installing an aluminum driveway gate can make your house look like a mansion.

Another option is fencing made from PVC. These fences come in many styles ranging from a picket fence to a solid wall. A trellis over a gate may draw some extra attention.

Wood fencing is another great option to add to your front yard curb appeal. There are many types of wood fences that are highly customizable and a picket fence around the front yard is a classic look that is not likely to go out of style.

Which Colors to Paint the Fence

Of the thousands of fence colors to choose from some of the most popular at this time are black, blue, gray, white, and natural.

Black and white fences can both help make your yard plants stand out against the backdrop; these colors, along with blue can help add some contrast to the yard.

Gray paints or stains are great to use because they match with just about everything; especially considering the infinite number of shades ranging from a very hard, dark gray to extremely soft, light grays.

For those who prefer a more natural look, wood stain is the way to go; this is especially true for people who want their homes to look more rustic, such as a log cabin.

Fence Bling

This really only works for wood fences, but adding some fancy hardware can really take the look of your fencing up a notch. Depending on the color of your fence, you may want to choose a color that contrasts that of the fence. For example, installing black hardware on natural wood or silver hardware on a fence painted black.

Installing an elegantly crafted latch or set of hinges can make all the difference by adding that extra pop.

The three major aspects to consider when installing a new fence are what type of fence you will install, what color you will paint it, and what hardware you will add to it.

Remember, adding a new fence is a great way to add curb appeal to your home and increase the value of your house 7% to 14%.
